We have so many new normal today. Some we have chosen, and others we are growing to accept. During this season of change, writing notes of encouragement has become one of my new normal. I began this daily practice when I started working from home.
Each morning, I set aside a few extra minutes to write myself a note. Although I journal, these were short notes written on Post-its or index cards that I placed near me as I worked. Writing is one of the best ways to keep my thoughts elevated and create positive narratives in my mind. Sometimes, unproductive thoughts would come, but my notes always reminded me to think higher and focus on what mattered most.
A simple note to self each day is a radical act of self-care and wellness. With all that is happening around us, it is a blessing to choose the conversations we have about ourselves. May your thoughts and words be positive, peace-filled, and productive.
Start here:
Find a quiet place to sit. Take five deep cleansing breaths.
- Grab a pen, sticky notes, or index cards.
- Take a moment to think about what words of encouragement you need to hear now.
- Use one of the stems: Dear (Your Name) _______________ or Note to (Your Name)….
- Tell yourself exactly what you need to hear to power through the day or the moment. It does not have to be complicated. It can be a scripture, quote, affirmation, or just one word.
(EX: ..you are beautifully and wonderfully made …..you can move through this experience one step at a time……love and beauty surround me……you are enough and what you have to offer is valuable…..RISE…SLAY…YES) - Place your note close to you, and carry it wherever you go—let this become one of your new normals. Start creating a better narrative moment by moment.
I created these Beautiful Note to Self Cards during this season of change. I keep my messages near me and read them often, even while working from home. They are also great for sharing and encouraging others.
