Spring cleaning is not just for the house!

“…even the small steps and little victories along your path will take on greater meaning.”
– Oprah Winfrey.

Spring is a season of new beginnings, and spring cleaning is not just for the house! This month, I invite you to reflect on your thoughts, words, and actions that have been sheltering in place. The beauty is that we can choose what remains and what departs during the spring cleaning process.
Oprah’s quote is a reminder that small steps lead to impactful accomplishments. Set aside a few minutes each day to reflect on your life. Consider the areas that could use a little more love and care. Reflect upon the type of care that is necessary for you to start feeling revived and refreshed. What are some simple, daily action steps that you are willing to commit to each day? More importantly, what are you ready to release to make room for something better.
One strategy that I use is the Kaizen method. The power of this method is that small, incremental changes create more significant, lasting effects. Instead of focusing on big, long-term goals, the Kaizen method helps you focus instead on small, intentional steps achievable each day.

Tips to get started:

  • Identify what you desire to spring clean (words, thoughts, or actions)
  • Be honest about why spring cleaning is necessary.
  • Create space for what you desire. Be ready to release what is no longer needed.
  • Let go of perfectionism! Start now.
  • Write/speak affirming statements to remind you of your why. Use these statements to pull you forward.
  • Take actions that align with what you desire to spring clean.
  • Express gratitude and celebrate your progress.
  • Use a journal to document your progress.

Be mindful of showing yourself some grace by managing a few things at a time. You can always repeat the spring cleaning process to address new areas when you feel like you have accomplished what you have set out to do. Having an accountability circle/partner will encourage you to keep moving forward on challenging days.
The ultimate goal is to create space for beautiful new beginnings. Approaching the process with faith, love, joy, and consistency will allow you to clean with a fresh perspective.
